THROW GLUTTONY (OVEREATING) AND OBESITY (FAT) OUT OF YOUR BODY BOOK
Chapter Seven - Throw Gluttony (Overeating) and Obesity (Fat) Out of Your Body Book
DEALING WITH YOUR INIQUITIES
Gluttony (overeating) and obesity (being overweight) is an iniquity brought on you because of your bad eating habits. In this chapter I want to explain all about iniquities so you will understand what you are battling against physically, mentally, and spiritually. You must get serious with God about your bad eating patterns and deal with them firsthand. Only then will you be set free of them. You must make some lifetime changes in your diet if you want to walk out your total deliverance from gluttony and obesity.
The first time the word iniquity is used in the Bible is in Genesis 4:13 when Cain says, "My punishment, my iniquities are greater than I can bear." Sin crouched at Cain’s door but because he didn’t stop it there it developed and ensnared him and led him to murder his own brother.
Exodus 34:6-7 And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
Iniquities are passed on down the generational lineage. Is God just to visit the sins of the fathers onto his children? When the children choose to take on the iniquitous ways and iniquitous patterns set forth by their fathers then God is just to visit the iniquities upon them.
Numbers 14:18 The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
Some transgressions and iniquities come together to work against future generations. Another word for iniquities is unrighteousness. The prayer of the righteous is one who has broken free from iniquity. They have great power and effectiveness in their prayers. The effectual prayer of a righteous man avails much.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Iniquities are those areas in your life that you war against on a daily basis. In order to deal with your iniquities you need to enter into intercession. Intercession is entering into a session with God. Have you ever prayed and your situation got worse? Why do you suppose this happened? In prayer you oftentimes prune the trees but you don’t pull out the roots. You deal with the symptoms yet you fail to get to the heart of your problems. You get rid of the spider webs (the sins) but what you need to do is kill the spider (uproot the iniquities) so the spider won’t build any more webs. Satan makes all the webs and he keeps you busy trying to get rid of them. It’s God’s desire for you to get down to the real heart of the problem. The more you see who you are in Christ Jesus the more you are able to break free from your iniquities.
Intercessors must be able to break free from the baggage in their own lives so they can intercede for others. When intercessors carry around a lot of baggage they are ineffective in prayer because their focus is on their own besetting sins, their own pain, their own lack, their own shortcomings, their own situation, their own circumstances and their own problems. Intercessors that are carrying around a lot of excessive baggage don’t need to be interceding for others until their own mess is cleaned up. They need to be going in before the Lord and praying for their deliverance and their healing. They need to allow God to reveal where they are missing the mark and erring from the truth. Intercessors bound in their own iniquities have bands around their feet and they can only go so far and then they are pulled backwards because their iniquity won’t let go. They cannot go on into the deeper waters of intercession with God where He desires to take them in behalf of others. Those dealing with iniquities must surrender them to the Lord and let Him destroy them from their lives.
Proverbs 5:22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
Part of the realm of your warfare is to deal with the iniquity of gluttony (overeating) and the obesity (extra fat) will clear up stage by stage as you begin eating properly and moderately. Gluttony is rooted in a lust for food that supercedes just a craving to satisfy your hunger. When all your energies are concentrated on one object of your affection it has become an idol in your life. Iniquity begins in a family. From a family it goes to a community. From a community iniquity goes to a nation. As you begin to intercede for your families, your community and your nation you need to understand what iniquities you are dealing with in warfare. Iniquity is spiritual wickedness in high places. Iniquities are the wicked highly exalted places in your heart and mind. The lust for food is an iniquity that has become a highly exalted place in your heart and mind. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Being forgiven is instantaneous but sometimes with iniquity you have to get a strategy from the Lord to be able to fight against it until you get a breakthrough. The word instruments means weapons. It is the same word used in the weapons of your warfare.
II Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
Numbers 18:1 And the Lord said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father’s house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
The Lord speaks to the priests and tells them they will bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary and they shall bear the iniquity associated with their priesthood. One of the works of the priest is to understand and to deal with iniquity. Christian’s are a royal priesthood so one of your functions should be to know what iniquity is and how to deal with it. The secret to intercession is to discover the iniquities of the people before they reach completion and stand in the gap for them like Abraham prayed for Sodom and Gomorrah.
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
Iniquities are besetting sins which so easily beset you. You usually commit them without thinking about them in advance. You overeat without thinking about it twice. You have grown so accustomed to committing your iniquities that they seem as though they are a part of your nature. Iniquities are those besetting sins that snare you. When you are born again and you know the Lord but you still keep doing the same sinful things over and over again you are dealing with iniquities.
Iniquities are usually linked to unhealed soulish emotions that have formed a seed bed for the iniquities to grow. What is the soul made up of? The will, the intellect, and the emotions are the three parts of the soul. The Lord showed me that I had spent all my extra money on food since I lusted for it. Nothing else was as important to me as food which could satisfy my soul and my palate.
When you have come to know Christ but you are still battling with gluttony, anger, rejection, rebellion, lying, stealing, lust, self-abuse (masturbation), manipulation, stubbornness, fear, worry, false humility, shame, bitterness, abandonment, resentment, gossip, back-biting, slander, falsehoods, etc. you have become snared with iniquities. These iniquities have so many ensnaring parts that they cause you to sin again and again no matter how good your intentions are. When this is happening you feel as though you are on a roller coaster ride that never stops to let us off.
Words of iniquity feed into your anger, rejection, rebellion, lying, stealing, lust, self-abuse, verbal abuse, manipulation, stubbornness, fear, worry, false humility, shame, bitterness, abandonment, resentment, gossip, back-biting, slander, falsehoods, etc. Words spoken can have an effect of defiling your temple.
Rejection can blind people to the call of God on their lives. The iniquity of rejection will make them bitter toward other people and toward God. Those suffering rejection will never love others or love God properly until they learn to love themselves first. When one suffers from rejection they will fear being rejected by men. When they are placed in a position of authority and they keep stuffing down the rejection they will correct others through a Jezebel spirit. Why is this possible? After stifling their own silent rebellion against rejection for so long they will become explosive in their correction of others thus leading to Jezebel’s manipulation. God has to lead them to release their fear of rejection. Search your own heart and discern who has rejected you the most in life. Who has betrayed your confidence? Who has been disloyal to you?
People suffering from bitterness are still angry at certain classifications of people. Obese people are intolerable of thin people. They hate how great they look in their clothes when they have a horrible time trying to find clothes to fit their huge frame.
There is an iniquity of shame that takes root in those who don’t have a driver’s license. They constantly have to ask someone to take them everywhere. There is an iniquity of shame on those who are obese. They are ashamed of going out in public because they can’t fit in restaurant seats, stadium seats, airplane seats, etc.
The iniquity of abandonment can take root when people are left out of things, left behind, dropped off at different places and forgotten, or when they experience unfulfilled promises made to them.
Those who are excessively slow or hyper are many times those who are performance driven. They go from one extreme to the other because they don’t recognize what normal is. Iniquity wants to drive you to extremism. A driving force to perform stems from a root of rejection. Performance orientation in intercession is not of God. An iniquity drives a person to perform. It can drive a person to pray, to read the word, to teach, to preach, and to lead a spiritual life but it cannot fill the void that belongs to God alone.
The minute anything goes out of balance it’s in danger of becoming error. Heresy is an over emphasis of the divinely inspired truth. If the enemy comes with a lie you just throw it out the door but if the enemy brings a great truth he knows how easy it is for you to go overboard on that truth and be led into error. There has to be balance.
The iniquity of false humility will manifest when someone fears whoever is in leadership. When they don’t know the leaders or how they will respond to their message a person possessing a spirit of false humility will not deliver what God has deposited in them for that group of people.
A person with an iniquity of rebellion will say, "I won’t do it!"
A person with an iniquity of stubbornness will say, "I’ll do it my way!" Their way then becomes an idol. They are totally un-teachable from that point on. Someone who has an idol of what they believe will never change no matter how many times they are shown they are wrong. They believe they have the truth.
I Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Mammon is an iniquity. There were two iniquities that caused Satan’s fall. They were mammon and pride. Through some kind of trading he was filled with an inward violence that caused him to sin. Satan’s fall didn’t come through his sin it came through his iniquity.
Ezekiel 28:15-16 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created; till iniquity was found in thee.
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Ezekiel 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
When you allow God to mend your brokenness you will become tender where your brokenness once dwelled.
God’s not looking for ability. He is looking for availability. God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.
The word sin came from when they used to shoot the bow and arrow. When the arrow never hit the target the armor-bearer would shout, "Sin!" Sin means you haven’t hit the mark or you haven’t hit the target. Before you were redeemed you were all unable to hit the mark because you had fallen short of it.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
An illustration of a dandelion is as follows: Sin represents a dandelion flower that has been cut and has been bandaged up. Transgressions are the plants or greenery that is your evil way of transgressing God’s laws that has become infected. Your iniquity is the root of the dandelion plant where there is a deep-seated seedbed of sin. Once the dandelion flowers are pulled off you don’t see them any more or so you think. A few weeks later when you go outside again you see more dandelions than before because the seed in the flower has taken root in the ground. This is how iniquity works in your life.
The Hebrew meaning of the word sin is slipping away, missing the road, or missing the path that God put you on. The Greek translation for the word sin means to be in disobedience. Sin is not deep-seated if it is not linked to iniquity. If a sin is just a sin that you can ask forgiveness for and it goes, it is not linked to iniquity. If a sin is linked to an iniquity then there is a deeper cleansing work that needs to be done. Not every sin has a root of iniquity but every iniquity will have a root of sin to deal with. Sin is more like a cut on top of the skin that you can see and apply an antiseptic to it and cover it with a bandage and it will heal unless infection gets into the wound. When infection gets into the wound the problem goes deeper. An iniquity is like an infection getting into the wound. Iniquities are referred to as bruises. Jesus was bruised for your iniquities. This is a strategic truth. Iniquities are more deep seated than just sins.
The word transgression means a willful deviation from or a rebellion against the path of godly living. Sinning is to miss the mark but transgressing is to willfully choose to deviate from the correct way to go. God has said not to steal but when you keep stealing as a way of life without even thinking about it you have transgressed against His word. You understand that God told you not to lie but you keep telling lies day in and day out. You just keep on lying without thinking about it or the consequences of telling those lies. Transgression goes along with trespass. Jesus was wounded for your transgressions and He bore your iniquities.
Isaiah 53:5-6 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
The Greek meaning for the word iniquity is wickedness, lawbreaking, and wrongdoing. Three words summarize iniquity. They are unrighteousness, wickedness, and lawlessness. Every time these words are mentioned in the Bible the root Hebrew/Greek word will be iniquity. Iniquity is a driving force that causes you to sin. Iniquity abounds when there is no love for righteousness. A love for righteousness will drive iniquity away. Iniquities are under the skin. They are deeply embedded. They are not superficial. They have to be healed by the blood of Jesus Christ. His blood can take care of every iniquity.
Psalms 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.
Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Hebrews 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
The oil of joy and the liberty of freedom are imparted to you when you love righteousness and hate iniquity. Then the iniquity becomes your enemy.
One of the attributes of the Antichrist principality is that it leads to rebellion and violation. There are boundaries that God has set up but those under the influence of the Antichrist principality will willfully choose to step over God’s boundaries.
Your iniquities were dealt with by Jesus when He shed His blood for you. There is not a single iniquity that Jesus cannot set you free from. So why aren’t you delivered and healed? Why aren’t you free? You have put bandages on some of your bruises and then you wonder why they haven’t healed yet. In both of the previous scriptures iniquities had a direct link with healing. Many of your iniquities affect your emotions. When your emotions get affected they affect your physical body.
The Hebrew word for iniquity means perverseness, bowed down, twisted, to be bent or crooked, or to be off course. Iniquity is the tendency to do wrong. Sinning is doing wrong but iniquity is a tendency to keep repeating that same wrong. This inclination lies in the disposition and nature and not merely in the act of transgression of the law. Sin trips you up. Transgression makes you willfully step beyond your boundaries in God. Iniquity defiles your character and gives you a crooked error to start with. If you start out with a crooked error and defilement you are never going to hit the mark until you recognize what it is and let Jesus straighten it out and work His power in it.
Iniquity is your second nature sins which you continually, repeatedly commit. You don’t even think about them, you just do them. Iniquity can twist you so that you cannot go the right way. Iniquity defiles your character because it is a crooked arrow to start with. Iniquity perverts the truth so it leads you into error. It will pervert your intentions so it affects your will and the way you respond to others and situations. Iniquities can be multiplied. Satan’s iniquities were a multitude.
Genesis 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
The iniquities of the Amorites was not yet complete. As iniquities rise in level God’s judgment comes. When iniquities reach fullness judgment comes. In the time of Noah God said that everyone was continually wicked. What’s the word wickedness mean? It means iniquity.
Read Genesis 18:20-32
Abraham prayed for Sodom and Gomorrah’s inhabitants. He prayed if there be 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 righteous people without iniquity would God spare them. Only Lot and his daughters were spared. God judged the wicked cities and their inhabitants.
Acts 8:18-23 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
Simon wanted to buy the Holy Spirit but Peter rebuked him and told him to repent of the wickedness of his iniquity. Peter also told him he had a gall of bitterness forged by his iniquity.
Romans 6:12-13,19 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
What are your members (instruments)? Aren’t they your eyes, ears, mouth, tongue, mind, heart, hands, feet, vocal cords, stomachs, lungs, kidneys, genitals, etc.? Have you been yielding them as instruments of unrighteousness? You need to stop indulging in your personal iniquities.
FIVE KEYS TO THE PROCESS OF DELIVERANCE Getting set free from iniquities is a process, not an instantaneous miracle. Just like God led Israel into the Promised Land He dealt with them about what they ate, their water supply, their murmuring and complaining, their rebellion against His earthly authority, and then He dealt with their enemies one at a time. God didn’t destroy their enemies for them but He showed them ways to outwit and overpower them on numerous occasions. God dealt with Israel’s customs, her sacrifices, and her offerings. God gave the kings, priests, and prophets favor among the people. Some failed while others succeeded. Saul failed then David reigned successfully. Moses disobeyed so Joshua finished his work. So it is with you.
Iniquities are dealt with through a process. Bruises require a progressive healing, not a miracle. Bruises will turn every color of the rainbow before they disappear. The first key of the process of deliverance is (1) you must get a revelation of what your iniquities are; (2) you must confess them individually to God; (3) you need to allow God to work with them; (4) you need to allow the anointing to destroy that yoke of bondage; and (5) you need to learn how to truly love righteousness. When these five things are accomplished then your iniquities become cleansed by the blood of Jesus and you will begin waging an effective warfare against them.
Fifteen times in Psalms, four times in Proverbs and once in Matthew the Bible talks about the workers of iniquity. These workers of iniquity are those people who know they are being driven by a sinful habit but they are not willing to give it up. God will never deliver you from your friends. He only delivers you from your enemies. Until your iniquity becomes your enemy you restrict God from having the right to deal with it. The minute you pray and ask God to make your iniquities your enemy then He can begin to work.
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
When the iniquities bare fruit they get stronger and deeper in each new generation. Lot’s sin of selfishness was much greater in his daughters. His selfishness dealt with where he wanted to live. Their selfishness dealt with knowing a man and baring children. Their iniquity of selfishness enacted out through an avenue of lust and sexual immorality led to ten generations being affected.
Deuteronomy 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord.
Sexual iniquity goes on for ten generations. This is the Old Testament and it is a part of the Law but Jesus came not to do away with the Law but to fulfill the Law. Before Christ it took ten generations for an illegitimate child to enter into God’s presence. Today you can break this iniquity of sexual immorality in Christ Jesus. All you have to do is recognize that you have this iniquity working in you, confess it, and see it broken in Jesus’ name. Many worship leaders have a difficult time getting into God’s presence because of being illegitimate. That iniquity can be broken in Jesus’ name!
In Genesis 38 Judah had a problem with lust. Judah’s daughter-in-law knew her father’s iniquity of lust so she set a trap for him. She dressed up like a prostitute and Judah follows her and goes into a house and has a sexual relationship with her and she conceived a child. Ten generations later David is born. What does David do in his generation? He falls into the same sexual iniquity of lust and sexual immorality.
Psalm 51:2-3 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
In these two verses David recognized that he wasn’t dealing with a little sin but a driving force of an iniquity in his life. When he recognized what it was he confessed his iniquity and brought it out of its dark hiding place and exposed it in the light.
In II Samuel 13 David’s son, Amnon, committed incest with his sister Tamar. Amnon was literally burning within with desire for his sister. Three chapters later in II Samuel 16 Absalom goes even further than Amnon did. He has sexual intercourse with all of David’s concubines on top of the palace in front of the whole nation of Israel.
How was it possible that Solomon walked away from the Lord after he had such wisdom and wrote this wisdom with style? What happened to him that turned his head? His iniquity of lust drew him away from the Lord.
I Kings 11:1-3 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;
Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave (cherished) unto these in love.
And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
God is preparing the character of His people right now in the earth. You need to be transformed in the image of Christ. You cannot do this without getting your character changed. For a couple of years most of what God has been doing in His body is testing your character. Christians are like tea bags. Your true flavor comes out when you are dropped in boiling water. Amen! God has been dropping a lot of you in boiling water experiences to see what is coming out so you can deal with it and let Him work with it.
The longer an iniquity goes on in a family the stronger it becomes. Five or ten years from now your iniquity will be harder to deal with but you must realize that God can deal with it in an instant. Iniquities can be dealt with miraculously but oftentimes you must wage an effective warfare in His strength. Whatever comes easy goes easy. If an iniquity left you easily you could also open the door for it to come back again. When you have to war against that iniquity to keep it from coming back you will refuse to open the door to it or to allow it to enter back in. With your struggle at keeping your deliverance you will maintain your freedom from it. Crisis situations are the only things that cause change in you. Difficulties are sent to turn you back to God, not from Him. When situations get bitter in your life and when storms overtake you God is in the storm. He is breaking you in order to make you new.
Iniquities are a person’s own responsibility. You don’t have to be in bondage to iniquities. You can choose to change this cycle through the Lord’s strength. A routine cop out is to blame some one else for something you are not willing to deal with yourself. You have to take responsibility for your own actions. When you are born again it’s up to you to work out your own salvation with the Lord.
You need to know what your iniquities are so that you can bring them to the Lord so that He can straighten the arrows, purify your character and cleanse the bruises in your life. God does not want iniquity to ruin you. He doesn’t want you defiled by iniquity or for you to be bound by iniquity. He wants you to discover the truth of how it works. As priests you have a responsibility to deal with iniquity. Priests are to train up children free of iniquity so that they will not fall into the same pitfalls that you have fallen into.
I Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
The responsibility of your priesthood is to identify the iniquities in your family, your community and in your nation and stand in the gap for others who exhibit these iniquities.
In Deuteronomy 11 fathers were told that they were to teach their children in the ways of the Lord.
In Ephesians 6:4 fathers are admonished to bring their children up in the knowledge and character of God and set forth patterns of communion and fellowship with God.
If fathers would be the priests of God they could instruct and prepare their offspring so that the children wouldn’t have to deal with iniquity. Fathers protect their children through their praise and their blessing of their own seed. Fathers need to expose and explain to their sons and daughters their own personal struggles with certain iniquities. When parents see these same patterns in their children they need to start dealing with them then instead of waiting until their children are grown.
I Samuel 3:13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
God is speaking to Samuel the prophet and revealing His plans concerning Eli the priest. Why did the glory depart? Eli was a father who never corrected the iniquity of his sons when he saw them eating the fat which belonged to God. He knew they were drinking and having sexual relations with the women who came to the tabernacle. Eli was a priest who did not bare his son’s iniquity through intercession. Eli’s son’s iniquity brought judgment and the glory of the Lord departed. When judgment comes the glory cannot remain.
Iniquities affect your prayers and prevent revival. Your own iniquities will keep causing the glory to depart because God cannot look upon the sin of iniquity.
Families and children often bare the consequences of iniquities. Since King Ahab humbled himself in the sight of God, the Lord did not send trouble during Ahab’s days. He was spared the calamity but it came upon his children. It was Ahab’s wife, Jezebel that was doing all the evil and sending out the threats against Elijah. God didn’t deal with Jezebel. God appealed to Ahab because he was the priest over his house.
Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
God did not want that Jezebel influence to continue. In His mercy God gives Jezebel time to repent but because she has refused to repent He says that He will strike her children with death.
The difference between mercy judgment and judgment is mercy judgment is when God petitions you to please stop doing a certain thing or acting a certain way or speaking a certain way. He warns you what will happen if you continue. God speaks through His prophets for you to repent, to mend your ways and to come back to Him. When you are in your iniquity and you scream for help you have been judged in that iniquity. There is no mercy. There is no more warning. There is no more pleading for you to stop. When you walk on into something that you know you shouldn’t have or do something you know is not good for you that is judgment. A door is opened that should have remained closed. God will speak to you on several different occasions concerning your iniquity. When you refuse to listen He will eventually give you over to the power of that iniquity.
Isaiah 64:7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
This verse says that no one is stirred up to pray because of the power of their iniquities. Their iniquities have so consumed them that they cannot pray. Has your iniquity of gluttony prevented you from praying effectively? Have you been consumed by food? Are your desires for food more important than God’s desires for you to pray and seek His face? Have you tried to lose weight by your own power instead of dealing with your overweight condition? Do you just want a quick fix? Do you want God to supernaturally shrink the fat off your body or are you willing to start eating the right food in order to lose the weight?
